Leolux is one of the leading furniture design brands in Europe. The company combines artisanal craftsmanship with contemporary design and optimal comfort. What makes Leolux seating furniture unique is that the customer plays a very important role in the design process. "Sometimes we say that we can make 1.2 billion different types of furniture," says director Sebastiaan Sanders. "Every piece of furniture is custom-made right here in our workshops in Venlo. The customer can even come and look at the production process."
Leolux is a genuine Limburg family business. For some eighty years now the Leolux experts let themselves be challenged by designers and artists to turn innovative ideas about shape, materials and comfort into beautiful as well as comfortable seating furniture. "We invariably work with local and foreign independent designers," says Sebastiaan Sanders, already a third-generation Leolux manager. "You can find our seating furniture in homes all over the world, from Texas to South Africa and from Shanghai to Dubai. This proves that a good design is cross-cultural and timeless."
Looking beyond borders
The fact that Leolux has become a world player is the result of its unique border location in Venlo, according to Sebastiaan Sanders. "In the Seventies my family realised that if you want to survive as a furniture manufacturer you need to look beyond borders. Being in Venlo this is very easy. We know the cultures and are part and parcel of the German and Belgian mentality. Exactly because of our border location and this cross-border DNA that is inherent to Limburgers, we were and still are able to detect opportunities on foreign markets and to respond to them."
Competing on international level
Consequently Leolux started exporting furniture to Belgium and Germany. In the German Ruhr region Leolux GmbH is now established with a daring own sales office. The step into Belgium and Germany appeared to be only the beginning. Step by step Leolux also conquered other European countries. "This entry into foreign markets forced us to innovate continuously, making our products better and better as we had to compete on an international level."
Leolux continues to take advantage of its border location. Sebastiaan Sanders: "We are at the heart of what are for us the major European markets. Not just physically, but also culturally and language-wise. This means that we can continue to be successful in these markets."
